PIN
Curation
The data contained within the PIN module originate entirely from peer-reviewed publications. MindSpec researchers manually curate information on direct protein interactions of ASD risk genes based on a multi-level annotation model.
The steps involved in the curation of a PIN module entry are as follows:
-
1.
Consultation with publicly available molecular interaction databases (HPRD, BioGRID)
-
2.
Extraction from commercial molecular interaction software (Pathway Studio 7.1)
-
3.
Manual searches of PubMed using the following terms: (Gene Symbol OR Aliases) AND (interact* OR bind* OR regulat* OR function)
-
4.
Verification of every interaction by manually curating information directly from primary reference articles
Most of the primary references were found through the manual curation of published articles, making it an integral step in the identification and extraction of information regarding ASD protein interactions.(For more information, see Statistics).
